The play is a dark comedy with music, and tells the story of three misfit teenagers, Howie, Solomon and Diwata, and their attempts to expose a sex scandal which could rock both their school and town. The New York Times praised Speech & Debate for “its picture of the borderland between late adolescence and adulthood, where grown-up ideas and ambition coexist with childish will and bravado.”
