K-9 OTC of Essex County (K-9 OTC) will hold its annual dog obedience trial, attracting about 200 dogs and their owners to compete in many different levels of classes from beginners to highly-skilled. In the more advanced competitions dogs will leap over fences on command, find their owners scent on a toy, and without leashes, drop to the ground on command in the middle of a recall.
K-9 OTC is the only American Kennel Club affiliated training club in Essex County. This is the first year that the competition is also open to mixed-breed dogs that are registered under the AKC's Canine Partners Program.
The public is welcome to attend (only dogs who are competing may enter the building), and it is a wonderful opportunity to see dogs and their owners working together, and to meet and speak to experienced dog enthusiasts.
