Lyrics & Laughter: An Evening of Comedy and Song

The New Jersey School of Dramatic Arts is excited to announce the return of their highly successful, new cabaret series: Lyrics and Laughter-An Evening of Comedy & Song.  The night will start with performances by veteran singers who hail from New York and New Jersey, with credits ranging from Off-Broadway to local professional theaters and will be followed by a performance by the On The Spot improv comedy troupe.  A pre-show wine and cheese reception will also be offered.

The singers include New Jersey residents: Mackenzie Caine who has appeared Off Broadway in The Rise of Dorothy Hale, Europa-the rock opera and The Howard Hughes Musical.  She has also appeared in regional productions of Beauty and the Beast , Guys and Dolls  and Met Me in St. Louis.  Marion Markham has been in the Off Broadway production of Kiss Me Quick at Musical Theatre Works and has played Peter Pan at the Fulton Opera House as well as Velma in the Colonial Theatre production of Chicago.  Ruth Aguilar's credits include the roles of Rizzo in Grease and Peggy in Godspell at Houston's Jones Hall Theatre.  She has also performed in New York at Don't Tell Mama's and Danny's Skylight Room.  NYC resident Aliya Saulter has played Martha in Guys and Dolls at the Genesis Repertory Theatre, Dionne in the Trustus Theatre's production of Hair and Alice in Bye, Bye, Birdie at the Richland Theater.

On The Spot is NJSDA's second improv troupe and has been making New Jersey audiences laugh since 2007.  Their shows are based entirely on audience suggestions.  "The only thing better than having a great idea, is watching it come to life right before your eyes!", says troupe director Ted Wrigley.  Troupe members include Mick Gyure and Rich McDonald of West Orange, Katie Rose of Nutley, Jennifer Jones of Edison, Jennifer Beza of Bogota, Joe Carney of Garwood, Sakinah Hofler of Newark, Matthew Hopkins of Elmwood Park and Jackie Pereda of Morganville.
