The work presented at this exhibition explores three beautiful old texts, some of which contain obscure or mystical poetry. Pieces include artist’s books, collage and unique prints. Most of this artwork was done in fulfillment of an artist’s grant by the Center for Creative Activity & Research at William Paterson University. Leslie Nobler-Farber looks at the conceptual angle of reusing and rethinking old objects using contemporary media, yet she goes a step further and actually melds the hands-on techniques of ancestral artisans with today’s digital arsenal – using alternative digital printmaking processes. A focus of this new work is alternative printing on metal surfaces and the application of metallic finishes to digital art. She develops new hybrid print systems as she takes a deeper look at both historic ritual/ceremonial handmade objects the role of the age-old text/book in one’s personal (spiritual) development.
