The Bible Goes to Hollywood: A Film Series

Temple Ner Tamid and Grace Presbyterian Church are proud to present "The Bible Goes to Hollywood: A Film Series".  Explore how Hollywood has interpreted three different Biblical stories. Enjoy the films with popcorn and refreshments followed by dessert and a discussion led by Rabbi Steven Kushner and Pastor Paul Leggett.

  • A Serious Man - A black comedy drama centered on a midwestern professor, Larry Gopnick, who watches his life unravel both professionally and personally in a chain of sudden incidents. Although seeking for meaning and answers through his religion, Larry seems to remain stalled in life. A Serious Man is a contemporary perspective on the story of Job by the Coen brothers.

  • David and Bathsheba - A classic film. After King David sees the beautiful Bathsheba bathing from the palace roof, he enters into an adulterous affair, which has tragic consequences for his family and all of Israel.

  • The Ten Commandments - This is not the classic Ten Commandements by Cecil B. DeMille that you might expect. This is a silent film in two parts. Starting with the story of Moses: The Exodus from Egypt, the Ten Commandments and Gold Calf at Mt. Sinai. Part II explores the efficacy of the commandments in modern life. The story of two brothers in San Francisco, rivals for the love of the same woman, who also treat each other unfairly in business.
