Rosemary Loar and Frank Ponzio in "When Harry Met the Duke" Featuring Music by Harold Arlin and Duke Ellington
On Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 2:00pm The Bloomfield Public Library will present a concert featuring Rosemary Loar: When Harry Met the Duke.
This will feature music by Harold Arlen and Duke Ellington.
Broadway and cabaret veteran Rosemary Loar and critically acclaimed jazz pianist Frank Ponzio have teamed up in a dynamic new musical tribute: When Harry Met The Duke. Their show features the songs of two great icons of the American songbook, Harold Arlen and Duke Ellington. Frank Ponzio's arrangements capitalize on the sophistication and emotion of Arlen's and Ellington's melodies. Rosemary Loar delivers each song as a unique conversation alive with a definite point of view. You will hear the great hit's "I've Got The World On A String", "HIt Me With A Hot Note", " It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing" and many more favorites. The 60 minute show is full of fun facts and anecdotes about these two composers, born six years apart and how their music continues to influence the way we look at the world.
Loar’s theatrical expertise was honed on Broadway and in national tours. She regularly performs the role of Christine in The Andrew Lloyd Webber Tribute internationally and in different venues. As a recording artist she can be heard on Sting’s soundtrack for the movie The Emperor’s New Groove, the cast albums of Chess and Sunset Boulevard and on the Listening Library series. Rosemary’s songs have been featured on NBC’s The Today Show, on The Lifetime Network, at Town Hall, Joe Franklin and Joan Hamburg shows, at the UN Fourth Conference for Women in Beijing and in the documentary Our Daughters, Our Future narrated by Hillary Rodham Clinton. Ms. Loar has been the recipient of the ASCAPlus Award for Popular Music for the past six years. Rosemary plays out with her band in the New York metro area. The Alternative Torch Series at Symphony Space (four rock/pop singer/songwriters, four Broadway divas, one great band), which she conceived and directed, played to screaming
crowds from 2004-2006.
