Family Claims Bloomfield Police Raided Wrong Home In Lawsuit: Report

Former Bloomfield residents are alleging that police had the wrong address when they broke down their door and detained them.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Former residents of a duplex apartment in Bloomfield are alleging that local police had the wrong address when they broke down their door and detained them while responding to a report of a murder-suicide in progress in 2021, a report says.

In their lawsuit – filed in Superior Court in March – the family is accusing police of using excessive force, conducting a search and seizure without probable cause and detaining them without cause. No signs of a crime were found, NorthJersey.com reported.

A warrant may not be required to enter a home if officers believe a fatal crime is underway – although there are limits, a law enforcement source told NorthJersey.com. Read the full article here.
