Fatalities Reported In Glen Ridge Car Crash After Police Chase
A fatal car crash took place in Essex County after a police chase, authorities say.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A fatal car crash took place in Glen Ridge after a police chase on Tuesday morning, authorities say.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to Patch that there was a police pursuit prior to the crash, which included fatalities.
At least two people were killed in the crash, which left the vehicle wrapped around a tree off a wooded section of the road near Ridgewood and Bloomfield avenues around 5 a.m., NBC New York reported.

The ensuing police investigation closed Bloomfield Avenue Tuesday morning between Ridgewood and Hillside avenues. The area is in front of a steep embankment in the park, NorthJersey.com reported.
The New Jersey state attorney general's office has taken over the investigation, News 12 Long Island reported.

The Glen Ridge Police Department posted the following message on social media Tuesday morning:
“Bloomfield Avenue is shut down between Ridgewood Avenue and Hillside Avenue due to an active police investigation. All pedestrian traffic should avoid the area. Commuters will not have access to the train platform.”
