Free Online Courses Available For Older Adults In Bloomfield

The classes include topics such as aging in place, computers, budgeting and mental fitness. They're available in multiple languages.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield is partnering with the New Jersey Division of Aging Services and GetSetUp to provide hundreds of free, online classes for older adults.

According to organizers, the courses – taught by their peers – are interactive, offered day and night, and free for Bloomfield community members 60 and older.

“GetSetUp is the largest and fastest growing online community of older adults who want to learn, connect with others and unlock new life experiences. The platform offers live classes taught by peers who are experts in their field, social hours hosted by community members, and special events with speakers who directly address areas of interest to older adults. Classes are taught by older adults on a highly interactive, custom-built video platform where older adults can connect during and in between classes. Older residents can choose from more than 500 available classes on a range of topics such as aging in place, computers, budgeting, mental fitness, and more with classes offered in English, Spanish, Hindi and Mandarin.”

“This is an incredible opportunity for Bloomfield residents to stay active, social, and learn new things from the comfort of their own home,” Mayor Michael Venezia said.

Councilwoman Sarah Cruz also encouraged local residents to take advantage of the free classes.

“It is the perfect opportunity for those who want to learn a new skill or simply stay connected to the growing online community,” Cruz said. “Exploring new activities and connecting with others enhances quality of life, and we are proud to be bringing more opportunities for community building to our township.”
