Home Burglary In Glen Ridge, Thief Steals Car: Police

Glen Ridge has seen two other similar burglaries since January, police said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A thief recently stole a car during a home burglary in Glen Ridge, authorities reported Tuesday.

The Glen Ridge Police Department released the following statement about the burglary, which took place around 3 a.m. on Linden Avenue:

“The suspects entered the residence through an unsecured window, stole the key fob to their vehicle parked in the driveway from inside the home and then proceeded to steal the resident’s vehicle. This type of burglary and motor vehicle theft has been an ongoing trend throughout the state. Suspects have primarily targeted luxury vehicles, primarily BMW SUVs.”

Glen Ridge has seen two other similar burglaries since January, police said.

“In all instances, the suspects made entry to the residence between 3 and 5 a.m. and stole the keys to the vehicles,” authorities said. “Through investigation, it was determined that the suspects have been driving to the scene in unidentified vehicles.”

“While there is no known connection between these incidents, suspects have been identified in the previous burglaries and the Glen Ridge Detective Bureau continues to investigate,” authorities added.

Police offered the following advice to local vehicle owners:

“Residents are asked to report any suspicious vehicles or persons to assist with investigations and prevent further thefts. We urge residents to ensure their vehicles and homes are secured and report suspicious activity to the police department. Key fobs should not be left in plain view inside the home or inside of a vehicle. If in doubt, contact the police department for an officer to be sent to check the area.”
