Lawsuit For Bloomfield Fire Official Ends With Union Deal: Report

Bloomfield Deputy Fire Chief Louis Venezia was cleared of charges that he made derogatory comments to firefighters, a report says.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield Deputy Fire Chief Louis Venezia has been reinstated after being suspended last year, and a lawsuit that alleged he mistreated local firefighters will end as part of a deal with their union, a report says.

Earlier this week, the Bloomfield Township Council approved a retroactive work contract with FMBA Local 19 that is effective until December 2020 and includes yearly raises of 1.5 percent, 2 percent, 1.5 percent and 2 percent.

The work agreement will also mean the end of a Superior Court lawsuit against Venezia – the brother of Mayor Michael Venezia – who was accused of training his firefighters to the point of vomiting and making derogatory comments to them, NorthJersey.com reported.
