PHOTOS: Little League Opening Day

Under warm and sunny skies April 14, the first official day of town baseball and softball began, with Little League and Peppermint League players participating in Opening Day ceremonies

Bloomfield turned out in droves for Little League and Peppermint Softball Opening Day on Saturday, April 14.  Though different teams met on different fields, the traditional National Little League parade began at Oakview School and ended at Vassar Field.  After team introductions and throwing out the first pitch, the 2012 season officially began.

Marching in the National Little League parade with the excited young players and their families were Mayor Raymond McCarthy and town council members Michael Venezia, Nicholas Joanow, Elias Chalet and Carlos Bernard, as well as BOE member Dianna Fuller.  Parade marchers were escorted by official vehicles from the Bloomfield Police Department and Bloomfield Fire Department.

Scott Bretz of the League Executive Board introduced the teams and players, after which Mayor McCarthy made a speech and threw the season's first pitch to 12-year-old catcher Kyle Barrow.

In honor of team spirit, Bloomfield's National Little League and Kid2pro Sports teamed up with Roberto's kids, an organization that collects gently worn and used baseball equipment for underprivileged US and Latin American children.
