Man Defends Girlfriend From Bloomfield Resident's Assault: Police

The woman's beau allegedly found a Bloomfield man on top of his girlfriend and leapt into action, Hoboken police said.

A man may have helped to rescue his girlfriend from an alleged assault by a Bloomfield resident on Court Street in Hoboken on Thursday night, according to police.

The Hoboken Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the area of 4 Court Street around 11:15 p.m. on a report of a possible assault. On arrival, officers allegedly saw a man holding another male down on the ground.

After conducting an investigation, officers determined that the man on the ground – Alexander Demetroudis, 41, of Bloomfield – allegedly assaulted the other man’s girlfriend during a robbery attempt.

Police allege that Demetroudis followed the woman and grabbed her from behind, then “violently threw her to the ground,” according to a release.

At that time he allegedly told the woman that he was “going to take [her] money,” police stated.

Hearing the commotion, the woman’s boyfriend allegedly came on the scene to find Demetroudis on top of her and assaulting her, police charge.

The woman’s boyfriend then rushed to her aid, holding Demetroudis down until police officers arrived on the scene, authorities stated.

Officers arrested Demetroudis and charged him with robbery. In addition, police found that he was wanted for a parole violation, and charge that Demetroudis deliberately gave officers incorrect personal information. He was additionally charged with hindering apprehension.

Authorities turned Demetroudis over to U.S. Marshall custody for the parole violation.
