BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A man allegedly robbed a store in Bloomfield earlier this week, fleeing with only cigarettes and a sandwich after the victim refused to surrender any cash from the register, police said.

The Bloomfield Police Department released a statement on Friday about the robbery, which took place on Oct. 18. Authorities said:

“Officers responded to 335 Ampere Parkway (El Azteca Deli and Grocery) on report of a robbery. A male entered the store and requested a pack of Newport cigarettes and a sandwich. The male then stated that he had a gun on him and demanded the money from the register. The victim did not see a weapon and refused to hand over the money from the register. The suspect then grabbed numerous packs of cigarettes and a sandwich and fled the store on foot towards Bloomfield Avenue. This incident is under investigation.”
