Man Swings Hammer During Argument In Bloomfield Store: Police

An East Orange man swung a hammer at another male during an altercation in Original Tropical, police say.

Bloomfield, NJ – Bloomfield police arrested an Essex County resident last week for allegedly swinging a hammer at another man during an argument in a Dodd Street business.

According to police, the incident took place inside Original Tropical around 5 p.m., when Jimmy Gomez-Cerda, 23, of East Orange, allegedly picked up a hammer and swung it at a 31-year-old male during an altercation.

The victim reportedly ran out of the store and called police, who arrested Gomez-Cerda and transported him to police headquarters.

Nobody was injured in the incident, police said.

Authorities charged Gomez-Cerda with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.
