N.J. Man Arrested In Bloomfield For Impersonating Cop, Had Baton and Pepper Spray

The Lyndhurst man had a baton, pepper spray and a bulletproof vest when stopped, Bloomfield police say.

Bloomfield, NJ – Bloomfield police arrested a Lyndhurst man for allegedly impersonating a police officer and possessing a baton, pepper spray and a bulletproof vest last week, authorities say.

The encounter began when a BPD lieutenant conducted a traffic stop after allegedly witnessing a black Ford Crown Victoria disregard a red traffic light at the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and Ampere Parkway around 1 a.m. on July 9, authorities said.

The driver, Dominick Agueros-Rega, 21, of Lyndhurst, then displayed a “police-style badge,” authorities stated.

After looking into Agueros-Rega’s credentials, the officer determined that the vehicle – while appearing to be government-issue – was privately owned, and that Agueros-Rega wasn’t a police officer, authorities said.

Police found a bullet proof vest, baton and a holster containing a pepper gun in the car, as well as an open alcoholic beverage on the driver side floor of the vehicle, authorities said.
