New Year, New Leadership For Essex County Commissioner Board
The Essex County board formerly known as the "freeholders" kicked off 2021 by electing a new president and vice president.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — It’s official: the Essex County Board of Commissioners has a new president and vice president.
During their annual reorganization meeting on Wednesday, the board formerly known as the “freeholders” welcomed Wayne Richardson as president and Carlos Pomares as vice president.
Richardson, the board’s former vice president, succeeds commissioner Brendan Gill.

The 2020 general election ended with a sweep for the Democratic Party candidates in the Essex County commissioner race, which included Richardson, Pomares, Gill, Patricia Sebold, Rufus Johnson, Romaine Graham, Robert Mercado, Tyshammie Cooper and Leonard Luciano.

The Republican candidates were Alexandra Campisi, Gynise Gotto, Monique Headen and Bernarda Quezada.
