Package Theft Suspects Arrested In Bloomfield, One Had Fake Gun: PD

Bloomfield police arrested two alleged package thieves, one of whom had an imitation handgun in his possession, authorities said.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police recently arrested two alleged package thieves, one of whom had an imitation handgun in his possession, authorities announced Tuesday.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, detectives were assigned to a plainclothes detail in the area of Ampere Parkway on Dec. 12 in response to several package thefts.

The detectives saw two men riding bicycles in the area. One of the men walked up to a home at Ampere Parkway and Abington Avenue and took two packages, which were valued at $370. He then handed it to the other man, and both of them tried to flee the scene, police said.

Detectives stopped and arrested the men before they escaped. One had an imitation firearm in his possession, authorities said.

The two alleged package thieves – both Newark residents – were transported to Bloomfield Police Headquarters and charged, authorities said.
