Price Of Water Is Going Up In Bloomfield; Council Approves Rate Hike

It's the first time in more than a decade that prices have gone up for water usage in Bloomfield, the town's mayor said.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Water rates are going up in Bloomfield.

The town council unanimously voted to approve an ordinance that will raise water rates during their public meeting last week. The ordinance got a green light on first reading at the June 26 meeting.

When questioned about the purpose of the ordinance by a resident during public comment, Mayor Michael Venezia said that it will increase the town’s water rates – the first time in more than a decade that prices have gone up for water usage in Bloomfield.

The effective billing date for the new rates will be Aug. 1. See the list of charges by usage below.

Bloomfield isn’t the only municipality in Essex County that has approved an increase to the local water rates this year. In June, the Newark Municipal Council gave its final approval to ordinances that pave the way for increases to sewer and water bills in the city over the next five years.
