Stolen Cars, Attempted Thefts In Bloomfield: See Latest Incidents

A car was stolen from a local BMW dealership. Another car was stolen when its owner parked it on the street, Bloomfield police said.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Two stolen cars and two attempted vehicle thefts were reported in Bloomfield last week, police announced.

The Bloomfield Police Department released the following details about each incident.

July 19 – Officers responded to 425 Bloomfield Avenue (Bloomfield BMW) after getting a report about a motor vehicle theft. According to an employee at the dealership, a gray 2019 BMW X3 was taken from the lot on July 18. The employee provided video surveillance of the incident. The vehicle was entered into the NCIC as stolen. The theft is under investigation, authorities said.

July 22 – Officers responded to the 100-block of Broad Street after getting a report about an attempted motor vehicle theft. The car owner said he was donating clothes when the suspect entered his vehicle and attempted to shift it into drive. The suspect fled the scene on foot when the vehicle owner called the police. Officers located a 27-year-old East Orange resident nearby and arrested him. He was transported to Bloomfield police headquarters to be processed, authorities said.

July 23 – Officers responded to the area of North 15th Street after getting a report about an attempted motor vehicle theft. A resident parked her vehicle on the street and after returning to it the following morning, she noticed it had been rummaged through and the ignition wires were cut. The vehicle was left unlocked. The incident is under investigation, authorities said.

July 23 – Officers responded to the area of Myrtle Street after getting a report about a motor vehicle theft. A resident parked his vehicle on the street and after returning to it the following morning, he noticed it was missing. The vehicle, a gray 2021 Honda CRV, was entered into the NCIC as stolen. The incident is under investigation, authorities said.
