Unwanted Car Repairs Cost Bloomfield Woman $1K, Police Say

A Bloomfield woman was stuck with a $1,000 bill after receiving unwanted car repairs in Verona, police say.

VERONA, NJ — A Bloomfield woman was stuck with a $1,000 car repair bill after two would-be repairmen allegedly pressured her into letting them fix a dent on her bumper in Verona, police say.

According to the Verona Police Department, the motorist told officers that around 12:38 p.m. on July 14, two men approached her car while she was in Pilgrim Plaza and offered to repair a dent on the bumper of her vehicle.

When the woman allegedly told them that she’d take their card and call them at a later time, the men proceeded to buff the bumper and spray paint onto the car. The woman told officers that she gave the men $80 after they asked her for a $700 payment, then they left the area.

Police said that the woman then took her car to a body shop, where they informed her it would cost $1,000 to fix the damage.
