BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A pair of suspects swindled a victim out of a valuable piece of jewelry by using some misleading chemistry in Bloomfield last week, authorities said Wednesday.
According to the Bloomfield Police Department, the theft was reported on May 12. Here’s what took place, authorities said:
“Officers responded to the area of Baldwin Street on report of a theft. A resident was approached by two individuals who asked if she had any jewelry that needed to be fixed. She then gave them a gold bracelet and a gold chain valued at $5,000. The suspects agreed to fix the jewelry and placed it in a container before adding an unknown solution which then turned the jewelry a different color. The suspects advised the complainant that the jewelry was fake and left the area with her jewelry.”
The theft is under investigation, police said.
