Thomas Oates, a retired captain from the Montclair Police Department, introduced himself as someone “Bloomfield was nice enough to make me the honorary Irish Person of the Day.”
“I always come to Obals [Inn] because it’s the ‘in’ place in Bloomfield,” he smiled. “There’s great food and great camaraderie with friends, and it’s a great sports place, too. It’s almost like the “Cheers” of Bloomfield.”

Joe Brennan, who was at Obals Inn with his father, Joe Brennan senior, said, “I’m confidant [the Giants] will dominate. It’s what we do.”
Andreas Quesada, the manager at Seniorita's, admitted he didn’t have a good track record predicting Super Bowl winners but expressed confidence that the Giants would win anyway.
“I didn’t see it coming when they won four years ago,” he said. “But I’m happy that they did.”
Gordon Henley, nicknamed “The Critter,” is a Bloomfield resident for 24 years, who lives above Obals. He said he was thrilled with the Giants’ victory. “I’ve been coming here since ’58,” he said.
Town Pub manager Rami Koria was busy all night with catering and private parties in addition to the regular Super Bowl crowd. Koria said he was happy with the large turnout this year. "Go Big Blue!" he said breathlessly, before disappearing into the kitchen.
Former Bloomfield councilman Ray Tamborini said, “This is as hard core a fan base here as you’ll ever see in these United States.”
While expressing optimism that the Giants would win, Tamborini noted,
“I’m a little disappointed that the New York Jets and the New York Giants are the “New York” anything. Tell me any place else in the country where the team’s name isn’t represented by where the team plays.”
Randy Crespo of Bloomfield, who sat among a lively group of family and friends at the Essex Bar and Grill, called it “a beautiful night.”
“We just love it here. This place is nice. There’s never any trouble here. And we just love the atmosphere,” he said.
Ellen Brinks from Montclair, who correctly predicted before the game, “It will be a close game but the Giants will win,” said, “I’m going to New England on Tuesday for a ski trip -- I can’t wait to go there and brag!”
