Wave Of Vehicle Thefts Reported In Bloomfield: Police

One victim said he dropped his Jeep off at a mechanic, but when he returned for pickup, it was gone. See more thefts reported in Bloomfield.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A wave of vehicle thefts were recently reported in Bloomfield, police say.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, the following incidents were reported in the township:

Aug. 3 – “Officers responded to 212 Glenwood Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle theft that occurred. The complainant stated that he dropped off his green 1999 Jeep Cherokee for service on July 24, and when he returned to the shop on Aug. 2, the mechanic shop could not locate his vehicle. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation.”

Aug. 5 – Officers responded to 212 Glenwood Avenue (X&J Auto Repair Center) on report of two motor vehicle thefts that occurred. The business owner stated that his gray 2002 Audi TT and a blue 2008 BMW 528 was stolen from his lot between the hours of 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. There were no signs of forced entry and the keys were located inside the vehicles. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation.

Aug. 5 – Officers responded to 78 Bloomfield Avenue (Pristine Auto Group) on report of a motor vehicle theft. The complainant parked his black 2016 BMW 228 at approximately 10 p.m. on Aug. 1 at 100 Bloomfield Avenue (The Provident Bank). When he returned to his vehicle at 7 a.m. on Aug. 2, he discovered it was missing. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation.

Aug. 6 – Officers responded to Warren Street on report of a stolen motor vehicle that occurred at an undetermined time overnight. A resident parked his silver 2011 Honda Odyssey at 9 p.m. on Aug. 5. When he returned to his vehicle at approximately 6:55 a.m. on Aug. 6, he discovered it was missing. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation.

Aug. 6 – Officers responded to the area of Franklin Street on report of a stolen motor vehicle. A resident parked her blue 2005 Subaru Impreza at approximately 5:35 p.m. on Aug. 5. When she returned to her vehicle at approximately 7 a.m. on Aug. 6, she discovered it was missing. The vehicle was entered NCIC stolen. This incident is under investigation.

Aug. 9 – Officers responded to the area of 334 Bloomfield Avenue (Orlando Latin Deli) on report of a stolen motor vehicle that occurred. At approximately 10:05 p.m., a resident reported that her white 2015 Infiniti QX6 was left running, while her and her husband entered the establishment. Shortly after she observed a male enter her vehicle even though the keys were in her husband’s pocket. Her husband ran out of the store and tried to stop the male, but he then fled east on Bloomfield Avenue with the vehicle. At approximately 11:10 p.m., the vehicle was found abandoned on Garden State Parkway South by NJ State Police. This incident is under investigation.

A Bloomfield resident also reported an attempted vehicle theft on Aug. 9. According to police:

“Officers responded to the area of Mac Arthur Avenue on report of a motor vehicle theft attempt. The resident observed a black Jeep Cherokee pulled alongside of his vehicle and broke into his white 2006 Jeep Liberty with a screwdriver, damaging the ignition. The suspect is described as being 6 feet and last seen wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and possible white sneakers headed towards East Orange. This incident is under investigation.”
