West Orange singer/actress to appear in for colored girls... for Black History Month

West Orange resident shines in 4th Wall Theatre's salute to Black History Month

By day, she is a respected trainer and advocate for the mental health community, but by night, Lynette Sheard is a renowned local performer. A versatile vocalist with a five octave range, she is an actor, producer and director. This month, Lynette is appearing in 4th Wall Theatre's staged reading of Ntozake Shanges' for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf. The production will run for two nights only, February 16 and 17 at 7:30 pm at the Westminster Arts Center on the campus of Bloomfield College in Bloomfield. She previously appeared in 4th Wall's critically acclaimed production of Avenue Q.

Lynette is the unseated “West Orange Idol”. Her performances have been acknowledged in numerous publications including the New York Times, The Record and the Chronicle. The Star Ledger proclaimed that “Her voice reaches deep into one’s soul and finds a soft spot”. In addition to her work in New Jersey, she performs in New York, , Pennsylvania and Las Vegas. Her style encompasses Jazz, R&B, Gospel, Soul and Pop. Her other theater credits include principal roles in: Dreamgirls, Smokey Joes Café, Ragtime, Swing, Aida, and an encore performance as Lena Younger in Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun taped for USA Networks. Her TV credits include BET, NJN, and the USA Network.

She has received countless awards and recognition for her musical service work with children, the elderly and veterans. Lynetteis a founding member of the Guiding Stars. –A Medical Missions group of professional performers who volunteer to entertain veterans and children. Her performances have raised thousands for Hurricane Katrina Survivors, Haitian Relief efforts, The American Red Cross and numerous other charities.
