What Happened To Rembrandt Painting Found In Bloomfield Basement?
Reality series "Strange Inheritance" will air an episode that delves into the now-famous find in Bloomfield, New Jersey.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — What would you do if you found out that the painting that hung in your dining room for years was actually a long-lost piece of art worth hundreds of thousands of dollars? New Jersey residents with an eye to the art world will remember that this strange-but-true situation actually happened in Bloomfield, when three brothers discovered a long-lost work by the 17th century Dutch master artist Rembrandt van Rijn.
On Monday, Jan. 15, the FOX Business Network’s reality series “Strange Inheritance” will air an episode that delves into the now-famous find, which took place in the basement of a Bloomfield home. (Learn more about the show here)
The painting – believed to be part of a series done by Rembrandt when the master artist was a teenage student around 1625. It was originally thought to be created by an unknown 19th century artist and worth about $500.

“FOX Business Network’s 'Strange Inheritance' premiere episode ‘Lost Rembrandt’ revolves around three brothers in northern New Jersey, who inherit a strange painting that had been in their living room growing up. When their mother died, the brothers enlisted the help of Nye & Co. auction house in Bloomfield N.J. to help liquidate her estate. They had no idea that the painting would finally sell (with commission) for a whopping $1.1 million. Turns out, the painting was a long-lost Rembrandt painting believed to be a part of the 17th century Dutch master artist Rembrandt van Rij’s series depicting the five senses.”
