Equipment Damage Knocks Out Power To Hundreds In Brick

Crews were working to restore service, according to the JCP&L website.

BRICK, NJ — An equipment issue knocked out power to more than 1,300 homes and businesses in Brick Township on Monday night, Jersey Central Power & Light said.

The issue was with a lightning arrester, said Chris Hoenig, a spokesman for JCP&L. A lightning arrester protects the system from surges caused by lightning strikes in bad weather, he said.

Of the initial outage, about 775 customers in the southern portion of Brick remained without service as of 7:30 p.m., Hoenig said.
