She was driving north on South Hope Chapel Road when she lost control of her car about three-quarters of a mile south of Whitesville Road and partially crossed into the southbound lane, where her car hit a 2015 Ford van that was southbound. The van was driven by a 62-year-old man from Point Pleasant, Laskiewicz said.

The 84-year-old man was seriously injured and was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The woman driving the Chrysler was taken to an area trauma center by ambulance with moderate injuries, he said.

In addition to Jackson police, the Whiteville Fire Company and Jackson Fire District 2 Firefighters, Quality EMS, MONOC EMS, and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department CSI Unit responded.
