BRICK, NJ — Two Brick Township teenagers were injured Wednesday night when the dirt bike they were riding and an SUV collided on Lanes Mill Road, Brick police said Friday.

The crash happened about 8:45 p.m., Sgt. Jim Kelly said.

The preliminary investigation showed the boys, ages 14 and 16, were headed south on Lanes Mill Road on 2002 KTM Enduro four-stroke dirt bike, with the 14-year-old driving. Daniel DeJianne, 65, of Brick, was driving a 2016 Acura MDX north on Lanes Mill, and was slowing down to make a left turn onto Millbrook Road. As DeJianne started to make the turn, the dirt bike hit the right front part of the Acura, Kelly said.

The impact threw both teens from the dirt bike, Kelly said, seriously injuring the 16-year-old, who was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of internal injuries.

The 14-year-old walked away from the scene before police arrived and was later found at his home, Kelly said. It was unclear where he was treated for injuries.

Daniel DeJianne and his wife, Diane, 65, who was his passenger in the Acura, were not injured, Kelly said.

The Brick Township Police Department’s Patrol and Traffic Safety officers and its Emergency Medical Services responded.

Lanes Mill Road was closed in both directions and vehicular traffic was detoured for approximately 2 hours during the investigation. An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Brick Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information about it is asked to call Patrolman David Thergesen at 732-451-2037.
