2 Houses In 2016: Northern Ocean Habitat For Humanity Sets New Goal

TOMS RIVER, NJ -- The Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity organization plans to expand its work this year, breaking ground on two new homes for families in Northern Ocean County, the group has announced.

Habitat for Humanity builds affordable homes through the efforts of volunteers with the participation of the families receiving the homes. Families for whom a home is built are required to volunteer on homes for other families.

Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity typically builds one home per year, and has completed 16 new homes. In addition, the affiliate has completed more than 60 Hurricane Sandy critical home repairs and more than 114 exterior repairs through its A Brush with Kindness program, the group said.

To help fund its continuing efforts to help Ocean County families, the Norther Ocean affiliate is hosting an online silent auction later in April.

The public will have the opportunity to bid on items including a GoPro camera, hot air balloon rides by Soaring Adventures, a QVC studio tour, foursomes of golf and much more, the affiliate said.

Bidders can use PayPal or credit cards to pay and winning prizes can be shipped or picked up at the Northern Ocean Habitat offices in Toms River.

Bidding will go live at noon on Thursday, April 21, and close at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 24.
