2 Hurt In Head-On Crash On Icy Beaverson Boulevard: Police
Breaking: Police said the icy surface early Saturday was a significant factor in the crash.

BRICK, NJ — Icy conditions are being blamed in a head-on crash on Beaverson Boulevard that sent two people to the hospital Saturday morning, Brick Township police said.
Robert Himpele Jr., 57, and Karla MacCarrone, 48, both of Toms River, were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment, Brick Patrolman Scott Dierking said.
The crash happened about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Dierking said.

Himpele was eastbound in the left lane on Beaverson Boulevard in a gray 2004 Toyota Tundra pickup truck just past Old Toms River Road when he hit an icy section and began to slide, Dierking said. The truck crossed the double yellow lines into the westbound lanes and into the path of the white 2017 Acura MDX SUV driven by MacCarrone, Dierking said.
MacCarrone suffered internal injuries in the head-on crash, while Himpele suffered a broken wrist, he said. Witnesses to the crash stopped to help the two drivers and call 911, Dierking said.

Brick Township Patrolmen Haley and Ziobro along with the police EMS unit, and MONOC paramedics responded, Dierking said.
"The initial on-scene investigation revealed icy road conditions are a significant contributing factor in the crash," he said. The Ocean County Road Department responded to treat the roadway for the ice, Dierking said.
He and Patrolman Donnelly are continuing to investigate and anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Brick Police Traffic Safety Unit at 732-262-1140.
