2 Injured In Route 70 Crash That Created Traffic Nightmare In Brick

Drivers were stuck in traffic backups on Route 88, Princeton Avenue and other surrounding roads for several hours after the crash Tuesday.

BRICK, NJ — Two people were injured Tuesday in a four-car crash that shut down Route 70 west in Brick at rush hour, police said Thursday.

The crash, on Route 70 near Forge Pond Road, just west of the Laurelton interchange, happened about 4 p.m., Brick Sgt. Jim Kelly said.

One person suffered a broken nose and collarbone, and a second person complained of head pain, Kelly said.

The closure, from 4 p.m. until about 5:30 p.m., caused heavy congestion throughout the area that lasted for hours, affecting Route 88, Princeton Avenue and other nearby roads. Motorists who were stuck in the resulting traffic said they were caught up in it for more than two hours.

The investigation into the crash was continuing, Kelly said and more information was expected to be available after it is completed.
