BRICK, NJ — A four-story restaurant and banquet hall proposed for the former Winter Yacht Basin at the end of Mantoloking Road in Brick is drawing concerns from Save Barnegat Bay.

The environmental group posted information about the proposal by Vilamoura LLC to build the structure, which would be 78 feet high and would require two major variances. It is scheduled to go before Brick Township Board of Adjustment on Wednesday, May 1. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

The 18.85-acre property sits on the south side of Mantoloking Road, across the street from Traders Cove Marina.

The proposed facility would have 116 berths in the marina, a 42,011-square-foot restaurant on 17,061 square feet and a 350-seat banquet hall. The main building would have space for rooftop weddings, bride and groom suites for prewedding preparations, balconies and decks. A third building would contain the marina office, an apartment, laundry facilities, and there would be a swimming pool.

The proposed facility needs a major variance for the height, which is more than twice the 38.5 feet maximum allowed by township ordinance. The second is for the banquet hall, which is not a permitted use in the B-2 zone. Additionally, the proposal has a number of smaller variances.

It also would need a permit from the state Department of Environmental Protection under the Coastal Facilities Review Act.

More information on the application was posted by Save Barnegat Bay on its website. You can read it here.
