900 Heroin Folds, Pills, Cash Seized In Lake Riviera Raid: Brick Police

Three people were arrested in the raid, which came after a heroin distribution investigation that lasted several months, police said.

BRICK, NJ — More than 900 folds of heroin, prescription drugs and $543 in cash were seized last week and three people were arrested during a raid of a home in the Lake Riviera section, Brick police said Tuesday.

Members of the Brick Township Special Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a home on Bethany Lane shortly before 6 p.m. on Thursday after an investigation that lasted for several months into the distribution of large quantities of heroin in the Brick Township area, Sgt. Neal Pedersen said in a news release.

The Brick Township Drug Enforcement Unit, which had been investigating, searched the home with the assistance of the Brick Township Selective Enforcement Team and recovered 933 wax folds of heroin packaged for distribution, Subutex pills and Alprazolam pills, Pedersen said. The DEU also seized $543 in cash believed to be the proceeds of the illegal activity, he said.

Police arrested Hasan Kamil, 27, and Alicia Azevedo, 28, who both live at the Bethany Lane home, and Christopher Lanza, 39, of Marc Road in Toms River, Pedersen said.

Sources told Patch that the Bethany Lane home belongs to Azevedo's mother, Ann Morgan, which was confirmed through property tax records. Morgan is employed as a bus driver for the Brick Township School District, interim Superintendent Thomas Gialanella confirmed. Morgan has not been charged with any crimes, however.

Kamil was charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, heroin; three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, heroin, Subutex and Alprazolam; and possession of drug paraphernalia, Pedersen said. Kamil's bail was set at $75,000 full, and he was taken to the Ocean County Jail, Pedersen said. Kamil has since posted bail, according to jail records.

Azevedo was charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, heroin; three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, heroin, Subutex and Alprazolam; and possession of drug paraphernalia, he said. She was released on a summons, pending court, he said.

Lanza was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, heroin; and possession of drug paraphernalia, Pedersen said, and was released on a summons, pending court.
