ICYMI: After Fatal Fire, Brick Family Still Seeks Missing Dog

Family members say no remains of the dog were found in or around the house after the fire that destroyed a Brower Drive home.

Family members of the couple who lived in a Brower Drive home that was destroyed by fire are asking the public’s help in locating the couple’s dog.

Robert Kanwisher, 74, and his wife, Debra, 63, lived in the home, which caught fire in the early hours of Sunday morning. Robert Kanwisher died despite efforts of neighbors and first responders to provide CPR, Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor’s office, said Monday. Debra Kanwisher escaped the fire and is recovering from injuries she suffered, he said.

Karine Beverst shared a photo of a yellow Labrador retriever named Katy to the Facebook page of ‎A-Academy Animal Control, the animal control company hired to provide those services for Brick Township, asking for help in locating the dog.

“She has timid personality and is microchipped,” she wrote.

Della Fave, in a statement issued Monday, also said the dog’s body was not found and that the dog had not been located.

The fire in the Brower Drive home, in the Sandy Point neighborhood, started sometime before 1 a.m. Sunday, with police and firefighters responding to a call at 12:42 a.m., Della Fave said Sunday. The fire so damaged the home that it had to be razed on Monday. Information on the cause of the fire and the results of the autopsy on Kanwisher have not yet been released.

If you have seen Katy, please call Brick Township police at 732-262-1100 or call animal control at 800-624-1709.
