America's fastest-growing sport is played here
Free fun, healthy exercise for men and women of all ages -- PICKLEBALL
Pickleball is coming soon to Bay Head, two outdoor courts are being built in Brick and an indoor season here starts in September, the county is starting a pickleball program this summer -- and it’s being played indoors in Point Pleasant Beach now.
Residents of the area are welcome to try pickleball between 9 and 11 Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the G. Harold Antrim School’s gym in Point Beach. That town’s recreation department is providing two courts and all necessary equipment this summer. No fee or pre-registration is required. Wear sneakers and join in!
Pickleball is somewhat like tennis, but it’s played on a smaller court so it’s not as strenuous. The ball is similar to a plastic Whiffleball. The paddle looks like a bigger version of a Ping Pong paddle.

The up-and-coming sport is popular in senior communities across the nation, and it’s being taught in some primary and secondary schools’ physical education classes. Men and women can be equally adept at it, and mixed-doubles is the usual game at the Antrim School.
Pickleball is free fun, healthy exercise and friendly competition. You’re welcome to drop in any Tuesday or Thursday morning. Experienced players are happy to teach beginners the sport they love.
