JACKSON, NJ — A 69-year-old woman was found with two knives sticking out of her body after her grandson called 911 to report a murder — a slaying authorities say the 18-year-old committed.
Louis Brown has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon in the death of his grandmother, Darlene Brown, in Jackson on Monday, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
Jackson police received a 911 call about 7 a.m. Monday from an apartment at the Jackson Green Apartment complex on Justin Way, Jackson police and the prosecutor's office said.
The caller told police someone had been murdered, the prosecutor's office said.
Officers found Louis Brown standing at the front door and as they arrived, he came out with his hands up and was arrested immediately, authorities said.
Officers then went inside and found Darlene Brown's body in an upstairs bedroom. She had visible stab wounds to her face and neck, authorities said, and two knives sticking out of her.
Investigators determined Louis Brown was the person who had called 911 and who had stabbed his grandmother, the prosecutor's office said.
Authorities did not release any other details about what led up to the stabbing.
Louis Brown is being held at the Ocean County Jail in Tos River pending a detention hearing.
The Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson police, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office investigated.
