BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township Board of Adjustment is set to hold a special hearing Tuesday night on a proposal by Stavola Industries to upgrade and modernize its facility.
The asphalt plant at 429 Chambers Bridge Road, next to the Brick Township municipal complex.
The hearing is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the council meeting room at the municipal building, 401 Chambers Bridge Road.
The proposed project consists of the demolition of the existing asphalt plant, which has been operating since the 1950s. They also would construct a new asphalt and control house, and there would be other "associated site improvements including driveways, parking areas, landscaping, lighting, stormwater management facilities, utilities, and other ancillary site improvements," according to the application.
The proposal has received opposition from the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority and from Save Barnegat Bay, Jersey Shore Online reported. They want to see the plant shut down and the site, which is near the Metedeconk River, remediated, the report said.
Employees who work at the municipal building have raised concerns about air quality because of dust from the plant, which routinely coats cars in the parking lot, including police vehicles.
