BRICK, NJ — Duct tape is popular because of its ability to bind many things together.
That ability was tested in the last week of school at Drum Point Elementary School, where students and staff came together for a fundraiser for protective vests for Brick Township Police Department's K-9 officers.
Students made donations and in exchange received varying lengths of colorful duct tape they could then stretch across Principal Chris Ott and physical education teacher Donald MacCarrick to tape them to the wall.
"It was a challenge everyone enthusiastically got behind! It was a fantastic event that brought plenty of smiles while supporting an important mission," Brick police said.
In all the students raised $1,335 to help pay for bullet- and stab-proof vests that protect K-9s while they are apprehending suspects.
"The Brick Township Police Department is incredibly grateful for the generosity of the Drum Point Road Elementary School community," police said in sharing the photos of the event. " A special thank you to every student, family member, and staff member who donated and helped make this fundraiser such a success. Your kindness and support help keep our K-9 officers safer as they serve and protect our community."
