BRICK, NJ — Two people were charged following a drug bust at a Brick home, according to the Brick Township Police Department.
Police reported that the department's Street Crimes Unit conducted an extensive investigation into the alleged distribution of illegal narcotics in the Ocean County area. As a result of that investigation, Charles Duffy of Brick Township was identified as a distributor of heroin and fentanyl operating in Ocean County, according to police.
During the investigation, detectives found Duffy and took him into custody without incident, police reported. At the same time, members of the Brick Township Police Department's Special Emergency Response Team executed a court-authorized search warrant at his residence. An adult woman, later identified by police as Latasha Chaneyfield, also was at the residence.
Police said the search resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of suspected controlled dangerous substances. Those included about 189 grams of suspected cocaine and or crack cocaine, 286 individual glassine wax folds containing suspected heroin or fentanyl, about 82 grams of suspected MDMA, about 57 grams of suspected fentanyl and about 29 grams of suspected oxycodone pills.
Police also reported finding drug paraphernalia, packaging and distribution materials, including a digital money counter, vacuum sealer, digital scale, suspected cutting agents, packaging materials and more than $2,500 in U.S. currency.
Duffy was charged on a criminal complaint warrant with possession with intent to distribute 5 ounces or more of cocaine or crack cocaine, maintaining a controlled dangerous substance production facility, possession with intent to distribute MDMA and heroin or fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute oxycodone, Xanax, Tramadol and Adderall, possession of heroin or fentanyl, cocaine or crack cocaine, MDMA, oxycodone, Xanax, Tramadol and Adderall, money laundering, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, certain persons not to have weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.
Police said Duffy was transported to the Ocean County Jail pending his first court appearance.
Chaneyfield was charged on a criminal complaint summons with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin or fentanyl, possession of heroin or fentanyl, cocaine and MDMA, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police. Police said she was released on a criminal complaint summons pending a future court appearance.
