📰 News we're reading

1. Speeding Crackdown Coming Around Brick Schools, Police Warn (patch.com) — Brick drivers are being warned to slow down as schools reopen, with township police and the Ocean County Sheriff's Office planning heavy enforcement around local school zones and Lanes Mill Road. The crackdown follows the May death of Brick teen Jackson Mueller and ongoing resident demands for lower speed limits, better signage, sidewalks, and tougher penalties for hit-and-run drivers. Police are stressing prevention, school bus safety rules, and strict ticketing for speeding and distracted driving near Brick schools.

2. Police camera chopped down at Brick gas station, man charged (palivingnews.com) — Brick residents are being told more about the Flock license plate cameras around town after police say a 31-year-old local man cut one down at an Exxon on Drum Point Road. The camera stayed operational, and Brick Township police emphasize the devices don't issue tickets but help investigators track vehicles tied to crimes or missing persons.

3. Soccer Preview: Points Have Been Scarce for Brick Memorial Entering Toms River South (maxpreps.com) — Brick Memorial's boys soccer team is still searching for its first win as it hosts Toms River South in its league opener at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. After a 3-1 loss to Barnegat and early scoring struggles, the Mustangs hope home-field support in Brick can help jump-start their offense.

4. Halloween candy sold in NJ recalled over hidden milk allergen (nj1015.com) — If you've picked up Halloween "Chocolatey Eyeballs" candy from the HomeGoods in Brick or other TJ Maxx and Marshalls locations, be aware it's been recalled for undeclared milk that could trigger severe allergic reactions. The North Arlington maker urges anyone with the product to destroy it and call for a refund, and no illnesses have been reported so far.

5. Manasquan Woman Charged After Deadly Crash: Prosecutor (dailyvoice.com) — Two Brick residents were involved in a deadly Route 70 crash where a Manasquan woman allegedly ran a red light, killing 58-year-old Eileen Ziesmer and injuring another Brick driver.
