BRICK, NJ — Brick Township officials are seeking input on the challenges in the township for those who live with disabilities.
The Mayor's Advisory Council on Disabilities aims to promote inclusion, increase awareness and improve the quality of life for Brick residents.
"Brick is a community for everyone, and I want every resident to feel that they have a voice, that they are heard and that they have the opportunity to enjoy all that our township has to offer," Mayor Lisa Crate said.
The Council will work to identify and address the needs and concerns of individuals with disabilities, their families and caregivers, and find ways to eliminate barriers that exist.
It will also provide educational and informational programs designed to increase community awareness and understanding of issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), accessibility and inclusion.
The Council will consist of up to 10 members appointed by Crate. Membership will include six individuals with disabilities or family members who live with or care for individuals with disabilities, the township planner, one member of the Township Council, one representative from the Brick Township Public Schools and one representative from the Brick Township Chamber of Commerce. The members will serve one-year terms beginning Jan. 1.
The council will meet quarterly at the municipal building and the meetings will be open to the public.
Anyone interested in being considered for membership on the Mayor's Advisory Council on Disabilities should submit a resume and cover letter to Crate at mayor@bricktownship.net, beginning Nov. 1.
"I am excited to work alongside the members of this Council, learn from their experiences and continue building a Brick where everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute and feel included," Crate said.
