Beach And Surf Report: August 11, 2015

Showers and thunderstorms, rough surf, moderate risk of rip currents forecast.

It’s probably not a good beach day for most people.

The National Weather Service is calling for showers and thunderstorms, with brisk southerly beach winds from 15 to 20 miles per hour.

The surf will be rough, with five-foot waves and light swells. The water temperature is 75 degrees.

There’s a moderate risk of rip currents, which means wind or wave conditions support stronger or more frequent rips. Always swim in guarded areas and have a floatation device with you in the water.

The lightning threat today is high, which means that thunderstorms or lightning are expected. The UVI index today is a moderate 4, due to the cloud cover.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet will occur 12 p.m. High tide is due at 6:14 p.m.
