Beach And Surf Report: August 28, 2015

Sunny skies, cool temperatures, low risk of rip currents forecast for today.

If you’re heading to the beach today, you can expect sunny skies and temperatures only in the upper 70s, according to the National Weather Service.

Beach winds will be from the north around 10 miles per hour, becoming southeast in the afternoon. Waves will be around three feet, with southeast swells around two feet. The surf temperature is in the mid-70s.

There’s a low risk of rip currents today, but strong currents can still occur near piers, jetties and other areas. Swim only in guarded areas and ask lifeguards about any hazards in the surf zone.

The UVI index is a 7, which the NWS considers high. There is no lighting threat today.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet was at 6:55 a.m. Low tide will occur at 1:15 p.m.
