Beach And Surf Report: August 5, 2015

Mostly sunny skies, low rip current risk forecast for today.

It looks like another decent beach day folks, if you’re lucky enough to have the day off.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-80s, a little lower than yesterday.

Beach winds will be from the west at five miles per hour, so bring the bug repellant. Waves will be around three feet, with south swells around three feet. The ocean water temperature is 75 degrees.

The rip current risk for today is low. But strong currents can still occur near piers, jetties and elsewhere, especially during the low tide cycle. Swim only in guarded areas and talk to guards about any hazards in the surf zone.

The UVI index is an 8, which the National Weather Service considers very high. There is no lightning threat today.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet will be at 12:31 p.m. Low tide will occur at 7:03 p.m.
