Mostly sunny skies today, but rain is on the way.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies today with temperatures in the low 80s. But heavy rain is headed our way later tonight into Friday.
Beach winds will be from the north around five miles per hour, becoming southeast in the afternoon. Waves will be about three feet, with south swells of around two feet. The surf temperature is 76 degrees.

There is a low risk of rip currents today, but strong currents can still occur near piers, jetties and other areas, especially during the low tide cycle. Swim only in guarded areas.
The UVI index is 8, which the National Weather Service considers very high.

The lightning threat today is low, which means there is little chance of thunderstorms during the day.
High tide at Barnegat Inlet will be at 1:28 p.m. Low tide will occur at 8:07 p.m.
