Beach And Surf Report: September 2, 2015

Mostly sunny skies, low rip current risk, air quality alert issued.

Another great beach day ahead, if you’re lucky enough to have the day off.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies, with patchy fog. Highs will be in the lower 80s.

Beach winds will be from the southeast from five to 10 miles per hour. Waves will be around two feet, with southeast swells of two feet. The surf temperature is 75 degrees.\
The rip current risk for today is low. But strong currents can still occur near piers, jetties and other areas, especially during the low tide cycle. Swim only in guarded areas and discuss any surf zone hazards with lifeguards.

The UV index is a 7, which the NWS considers high. There is no lightning threat today.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet was at 11:11 a.m. Low tide will occur at 5:45 p.m.

The state Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Orange air quality alert. That means air pollution concentrations may be unhealthy for sensitive groups like children, the elderly, people with asthma, heart disease or lung diseases.
