Beach And Surf Report: September 5, 2015
Sunny skies, but life-threatening rip current risk, very rough surf is forecast for today.

You can go to the beach today, but stay out of the water.
The National Weather Service is forecasting dangerous ocean conditions, with rough surf and a high risk of rip currents.
Waves will be four to five feet, with east swells of around two feet. The water temperature is 74 degrees.

“High surf and large swells will produce dangerous, pounding surf and rip currents at the beaches,” the NWS says. ”These rip currents will be life-threatening to anyone who enters the surf. Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf.”
The Harvey Cedars Beach Patrol on Long Beach Island is not allowing anyone in the water past their knees. Neither is the Long Beach Township Beach Patrol.

“We have some pretty rough surf conditions out there today, so all of our beaches will be flying “Red” flags,” according to the Long Beach Township Beach Patrol’s Facebook page. ”This means - no swimming - only going into the water up to your knees.”
Skies will be partly sunny today, becoming sunny after 2 p.m. Beach winds are from the east at 15 miles per hour.
The UVI index is a 7, which the NWS considers high. There is no lighting threat today.
