Police say Donovan Martinez of Brick turned into the path of a Jeep Grand Cherokee as he tried to cross Princeton Avenue on Wednesday.

BRICK, NJ — An 18-year-old was seriously injured Wednesday when he turned his electric bicycle into the path of an SUV on Princeton Avenue and was hit, Brick police said Thursday.

Donovan Martinez, 18, of Brick was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment after the crash, which happened shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Brick Patrol Officer Victoria Finelli said.

Martinez was riding a black Jetson Bolt Pro Electric bicycle east in the bicycle lane on Princeton Avenue near Windward Beach Park. At the same time, Jennifer Amato, 41, of Brick, was driving east on Princeton Avenue in a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Finelli said.
