I found the scene for this photograph during a trip to Acadia National Park in late September. We had decided to head to the park once school was back to avoid some of the crowds, as well as hopefully take in some of the fall foliage the area is known for. Prior to my arrival, I was unaware of the scenery to be taken in away from the immediate coast, which had me in awe. As we further explored the park, we came to Sieur De Monts, which has several paths through the area, as well as nature displays and lots of wildflowers. We set out on one of the paths which led through some marsh area, complete with wooden raised walkways, fern and beautiful birch trees. I have always enjoyed birch trees for the luminance they seem to possess and the contrast they provide to a wooded area. Soon the path thinned out and became a narrow pathway flanked on both sides by birch trees. The sun was illuminating several of the leaves which were losing their summer color, some of which having already made their way to the ground. We walked the path for a while also seeing beautiful meadows and a tree, about 16 inches in diameter, soon to be fallen from the work of a beaver. Upon our return along the path, I stopped at what I saw as the best spot to make my photograph. It was later in the day now and the sun was giving a warm glow to the leaves and grass, as well as the birch trees. Since I no longer shoot film, I planned for the use of a light green filter during post processing and made several exposures, making sure I got the focus just right; I wanted to be sure the roots and leaves in the immediate foreground were tack sharp, as were the leaves and trees near the end of the trail. This is one of my favorite photos of my Acadia trip, and well worth going off the beaten path. , Acadia National Park.
